Kansas City Chiefs have been absolutely abysmal this season. At 1-7, they have no hopes of the playoffs and should perhaps start evaluating players for next season.
Apparently though, head coach Romeo Crennel is tired of his teams play and is sending a message to the whole team.
If you turn the ball over, you will be benched.
Per kansascity.com: “I have to impart on them the importance of protecting the ball for this team. And sometimes to get that done, you basically have to threaten them. If you fumble it, I’m going to take you out of the game. And they will get the message,” Crennel said.
When asked whether or not he would bench quarterback Matt Cassel, Crennel added this.
“Yes, you can make a change there,” Crennel said, “but the thing is, you always have to know exactly what happened on the play and why it happened. If a receiver tips the ball up in the air, is that on the receiver or is that on the quarterback? I have to make that determination, so I’ll make the call. I’ll sit the receiver or I’ll sit the quarterback.”
While I can’t be upset at Crennel trying to motivate his team, a part of me wonders why this hard stance not taken before the team lost 7 of their first 8 games.
Too late for all of this now.
