Things have gone well for new starting quarterback in San Francisco Colin Kaepernick.
A week after beating a stout Chicago Bears defense, Kaepernick followed that performance up with a victory over the Saints in New Orleans. Completing 64% of his passes and adding both a rushing and passing touchdown, Kaepernick validated coach Jim Harbaugh’s decision to start him over Alex Smith.
Apparently though, Smith still has support from at least on 49er player.
Per USA Today: “When I look at Colin I see a great playmaker,” Vernon Davis said. “I think Alex [Smith] is still the man. In my heart I strongly believe that. You’ll know next week. I’m sure (coach Jim) Harbaugh will make a nice decision, who he wants to go with. I’m sure Alex is still our guy.”
Smith also had some interesting comments: “Obviously I want to start,” Smith said. “I think I should, but it’s not my decision, you know? I’m also a part of this team, and it was great to go out and get a win. That obviously comes first. It’s a tough situation, Kaep went out there and played good and got a win, and that’s the biggest thing for a quarterback.”
As of now, Harbaugh has not commented on who will start next week but one can assume it will be Kaepernick.
