Cowboys NT Josh Brent Arrested For DUI Manslaughter; Killed Teammate Jerry Brown

Here is a timeline of the events that happened in the hours before and after the tragic death of Cowboys Jerry Brown and the arrest of Cowboys Nose Tackle Josh Brent.

Around 1am it was confirmed that several Cowboys were out at the popular Dallas nightclub Privae.

It was confirmed that Josh Brent and Jerry Brown were in attendance.

Brent and Brown left the club a little after 2am.  According to TMZ around 2:30 am police were alerted to a single car accident.  Jerry Brown died because of the injuries from that crash.

Police at that time believed that alcohol was involved in causing the crash and arrested Josh Brent at 4:14 on a charge of Intoxicated manslaughter.  Here is the statement they made about the arrest.

“Officers at the scene believed alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash; therefore, Price-Brent was asked to perform field sobriety tests,” a statement from the Irving Police Department said. “Based on the results of the tests, along with the officer’s observations and conversations with Price-Brent, he was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was transported to an area hospital for a mandatory blood draw. Once it was learned that the passenger of his vehicle had died as a result of the crash, Price-Brent was booked into the Irving City Jail on one count of Intoxication Manslaughter.”

According to Irving police, Brent’s car was traveling at a high rate of speed on a State Highway 114 service road before he hit the outside curb. The car flipped at least one time before coming to a rest in the middle of the service road.

When police arrived Brent was responsive and spoke to police officers. Brown was unresponsive and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In the state of Texas Intoxicating Manslaughter is a 2nd degree felony and is described as:

Texas law states that if a person commits an offense if a person operates a motor vehicle in a public place while intoxicated and by reason of that intoxication causes the death of another by accident or mistake.

Range of Punishment

Penitentiary: Confinement in the Texas Department of Corrections (TDC) for not less than 2 years to 20 years.

The Cowboys were on their team plane to Cincinnati when they received the news.

Brent was arrested and was jailed for 60 days for a previous DUI arrest in 2009 while at the University of Illinois.

Thoughts and prayers go out to family, friends, teammates of Jerry Brown and please remember that if you are going to go out partying have a designated driver and if you are too intoxicated to drive please call a cab.
