Dirk Nowitzki is back Mavericks fans but that doesn’t mean he can play all five position. Short of O.J. Mayo the Mavs are in rebuild mold even though they won’t admit it.
Dirk returned last night and played a few minutes, but the Mavs were still blown out by the Spurs 129-91. The Mavericks gave up 20 three pointers and had 20 turnovers.
Nowitzki is already frustrated and voiced that to ESPN Dallas, hinting out that he’s used to being on “smart savvy teams.”
“Our basketball IQ obviously went down a little bit with J-Kidd leaving,” Nowitzki told reporters in San Antonio. “I think that’s pretty obvious.
“We don’t make the right play on defense. I don’t think that’s selfishness. Maybe we don’t react quick enough or maybe it’s not natural enough to the guys yet, all the calls, the switching of coverages. You’ve got to pay attention, you’ve got to be smart out there. …
“Offensively, our decision-making has been brutal. We’re averaging 20 (turnovers) tonight. It’s impossible to win, especially on the road.”
Shots fired at all Dallas Mavericks players, and the man firing the shots has the cred to do it.
