The New York Jets mess of a season has finally ended, and appropriately heads are starting to roll. Adam Schefter is reporting that Jets owner Woody Johnson has fired GM Mike Tannenbaum, and announced Rex Ryan will remain head coach.
The move was announced a little after 9 a.m. during a press conference. Woody Johnson gave a brief statement on the matter.
“This morning, I informed Mike Tannenbaum that he will not return for the 2013 season,” Johnson said in the statement. “Mike devoted 15 years of service to the Jets, and I want to thank him for his hard work and dedication. Although he helped guide us to two consecutive AFC Championship games, we are not where we want to be, and a new General Manager will be critical to getting this team back on the right track.”
Tannenbaum put together the abysmal roster that is now a pain to watch on the football field. There was speculation that he might be kept around for salary cap purposes, but Woody Johnson completely dismissed that notion.
Johnson stated that a firm has been hired to find the next general manager.
