The shock of the Brooklyn Nets firing Avery Johnson is starting to wear off now, and its about the Nets finding a new head coach.

Assistant coach P.J. Carlesimo will man the reigns for now, but at some point the Nets have to find a new coach.  One of the hot names being considered is Houston Rockets assistant coach Kelvin Sampson.

Sampson filled in for 13 games while Kevin McHale was out with a family emergency and did pretty well.  Yahoo Sports Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Billy King likes Sampson, and that he has become a serious candidate for the job.

Houston Rockets assistant coach Kelvin Sampson has emerged as a significant candidate for the Brooklyn Nets’ head-coaching job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports…

Nets general manager Billy King is intrigued with Sampson, among other candidates, and is expected to eventually speak with him, sources said.

Sampson is not Phil Jackson or Larry Brown, but he has coach on every level of basketball and could be a nice hire for a team that is struggling to find itself.
