Mark Sanchez was named the started for this Sunday’s match-up with the Jacksonville Jaguars. This, after being benched mid-game for Greg McElroy last week.
Head coach Rex Ryan has proven to be loyal to Sanchez, despite his recent struggles. However, when asked by a reporter about their futures, Ryan was quick to seperate himself from the quarterback.
“This is a big decision. [A big factor] in determining wins and losses is the play of your quarterback a lot of times,” Ryan said, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “But no, I don’t feel that my future’s tied in with how we do things [with the quarterback].”
“I think I’m loyal to all of our players,” Ryan said. “I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. I also have a responsibility to this football team. And that’s to put the best guys out there that give us a chance to win. I think the decision here to go with Mark [is] something that I believe in.”
I don’t necessarily believe that the future of the two are intertwined. Honestly, the Jets are on the hook to Sanchez for a lot of money so I believe both he and Rex will be back next year.
He’s not the best at quarterback but still probably gives them the best chance to win.
