After the Falcons laid the smackdown on the Giants this past Sunday, Roddy White went on his normal Twitter rants about how people need to start giving the Falcons respect.
He ignored they had just lost to the Panthers the week before, but I digress. The Falcons think it is personal, but it isn’t. In sports you are judged by what you do in the playoffs. The Falcons under Matt Ryan are 0-3 including an embarrassing home loss to the Packers when they were the #1 seed in the NFC. In the third game against the Giants last year, their high-powered offense only managed to score 2 points.
Doesn’t matter if you are Lebron James or Peyton Manning, what you do in the playoffs matters. People respect the Falcons in the regular season, but are you happy with always being a bridesmaid or do you want people to kiss the ring?
Roddy did point out the reason the Falcons have failed in the past during an interview courtesy of USA Today. He claims the Falcons were actively hoping not to play certain opponents.
“I told them early in the locker room, ‘We can’t keep ducking people and say, “We don’t want to play these guys, we don’t want to play those guys,” ‘ ” the Falcons’ wide receiver told USA TODAY Sports after the game.. Stop saying, ‘I hope we don’t get these guys.’
“I could say, two, three years ago, that was the attitude, trying to escape guys and not do this and say, ‘I hope we don’t get these guys,'” White said. “We’d be saying, ‘Oh, these guys can do this, they’re a good football team.’ We can’t say we don’t want to play them. We can’t say that.”
I appreciate his honesty, most players wouldn’t admit to that.
He says the Falcons are a different team now, we shall see soon.
