Cam Cameron Says John Harbaugh Firing Him Was Brilliant
On December 10th the Baltimore Ravens broke up with their former offensive coordinator Cam Cameron. The final straw for the Ravens organization was losing 31-28 to the Washington Redskins.
The Ravens were barely squeezing out wins. Joe Flacco was playing like Joe Fluke-O and concerns started to surface regarding his consistency and effectiveness. Not to mention, fans were not to pleased with the way Ray Rice was being used on offense.
Then shortly afterwards, Jim Cardwell was introduced to the Baltimore Ravens. Their offense still shows signs of being inconsistent at times, while their aging defense has reemerged. You want Ray Rice to be effective but running constantly on first down is not the way to go. In a recent New York Times story, Cameron admits he knew his demise was near and even felt John Harbaugh was justified in firing him.
“It was a brilliant move. Everyone on the team took a look in the mirror after that.We were inconsistent, and if I’m in charge, I’m saying: Why are we inconsistent? We need to get the team’s attention.”
Now there is a difference between understanding a move and condoning it, let alone outright praising it, and Cam Cameron seems to be effected by all the above. I’m sure an opening will come his way soon. Cam Cameron was never a bad offensive coordinator, but the Ravens felt it was time for a change. Glad to see he left with class and isn’t bitter.
Cameron interviewed for the New York Jets’ offensive coordinator position but didn’t get the job, however he feels certain that he will coach again in the NFL.
