It has been a long discussed topic, but never really taken serious in the eyes of so many. The Washington Redskins and their nickname is offensive to some, and there has been a call for change for as long as I’ve been alive.
The Mayor of D.C. is not feeling the name, and in the midst of the team and the city discussing the franchise moving back into D.C., The Mayor via the Washington Post feels that’s a subject that definitely will need to be taken serious first. Mayor Vincent Gray wants that nicknamed changed before the Skins can return to D.C.
“I think that if they get serious with the team coming back to Washington, there’s no doubt there’s going to have to be a discussion about that, and of course the team is going to have to work with us around that issue,” Gray said, via the Washington Post. “I think it has become a lightning rod, and I would be love to be able to sit down with the team . . . and see if a change should be made.”
Gray did not indicate that the team had to change the name to move back into the city, but he would prefer it.
