The Boston Celtics tried to keep the band together for one last run or two, but the way the team is playing, you get the feeling the window is closed shut and locked.
The Celtics are 20-20 on the season and not looking anything close to formidable. Celtics head coach Doc Rivers is Frustrated and according to CSNNE, “does not feel like he is doing his job.”
Rivers told Sherrod Blakely things will change, or he’s going to get rid of some guys.
“We are playing awful and I am clearly not doing my job for this team and I am serious,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. “I am not trying to take a bullet for the team and I told them that. I said we have to find something where all 12 guys play the same way.”
“I gotta either find the right combination or the right guys, or we’re going to get some guys out of here,” said a visibly upset Rivers after the Celtics lost their third straight game. “That’s the bottom line. This group right now, they’re not playing right. It’s in them to play right. But right now they haven’t been either because I’m not getting to them, or they’re not getting to each other.”
“I don’t think guys are honest with each other,” Rivers said. “I just don’t think we have committed to being a good basketball team. I think this team wants everything easy; they want the easy way out. They just want to win easy. And I told them, ‘the only way you’re going to win easy is you’re going to have to play hard. The harder you play, the easier the game becomes.”‘
Short of Rondo or Jared Sullinger, I’m not sure who Rivers and the Celtics can move. Bless Jeff Green and I’m glad he’s been able to resume his career, but he’s been terribly inconsistent.
I’m not sure what Ainge’s options are, but the window for success has closed.
