BSO Fat joke andy reid

ESPN NFL analyst Ed Werder took to twitter today to apologize for a crass ‘fat joke’ he made on air in regards to Andy Reid today.

When reporting on the Chief’s pickup of Andy Reid, Werder stated the following:

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and his delegation that includes GM Scott Pioli has actually left Philadelphia and return to Kansas City without Andy Reid in tow…Now I don’t know if that’s because Andy Reid might put the plane over its weight limit, but there’s no apparent breakdown in the deal. The expectation still is that Andy Reid is going to be the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

After the incident Werder then took to twitter to offer Reid an apology for the off color joke.

Bad attempt at humor on earlier SportsCenter. I know better & I’m sorry. Apologies to Andy Reid. Back to football news. Lots to cover- via Werder’s twitter account

Was Werder’s crass but somewhat light-hearted joke just that…a joke? Or was it out of line and a display of a lack of professionalism on his part? I’m tempted to give Werder the benefit of the doubt.
