Denver Nuggets forward JaVale McGee is the epitome of an enigma. So much raw talent and potential as a basketball player, yet the brain and skills aren’t meshing.
For every athletic and gifted play he makes, a bone headed decision follows. The Nuggets and head coach George Karl are displaying a ton of patience with him, but as Karl told the Denver Post.
“He’s got to understand that lazy and crazy isn’t going to make it work,” Karl said. “We want solid and we want fundamental, and we want spectacular but only when it happens, not forcing the action where sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t.”
As I wrote earlier, McGee is the ultimate enigma’s. He averages 19 minutes a game, yet is among the league leaders in blocks.
He’s also reckless and undisciplined at times, which is the very reason why he only gets 19 minutes a game. Hopefully he can tap into that potential.
