I have to admit, I am trying to take this story seriously, but how can you when you are talking about JaMarcus Russell? Russell who had legendary physical talent but the work ethic of 50 year old man still living in his mother’s basement.
This isn’t even taking into account his problem with the “Sizzurp” and weight issues.
With that being said he wants another shot in the league. He spoke to Yahoo Sports about it.
“My first year out, I couldn’t watch football but after a while, I couldn’t keep the TV off. I got that itchy feeling but now I gotta watch it, gotta watch,” Russell said.
“The last few years, the things going through my life, football is my job and it is how it feeds my family. People would say [that] I didn’t love the game but that pisses me off. People don’t know the real you but I want people to know the real me and see what I can do. People are always saying that I’m a bust. I want show them I’m not. I’m committed to this now.”
“I’m not looking for a pat on the shoulder from people who haven’t been there for me,” Russell said. “It feels funny not to go through a training camp, that’s just what I’m used to. It’s going to feel good to go back out there again. I will make this happen.”
It is amazing that Russell is only 27 years old (it seems like he has been out of the league for a decade), but he wants everyone to believe he is serious about his comeback.
He will be working out at TEST Football Academy and TEST West, where a litany of athletes will be trying to help him including Marshall Faulk and Jeff Garcia.
Even if Tim Tebow laid hands on him, I am not sure that would be enough.
Russell who weighed a hefty 320 six weeks ago is down to a trim 308 (yes I am being sarcastic). I will never hate on a man who is trying to get his life together, but fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me again then I would be the GM who signed JaMarcus Russell.
