The Carolina Panthers made a change with their running backs, but it’s not what you think. The Panthers announced that they fired running backs coach John Settle per the Charlotte Observer.
Rivera was kept on as head coach, but was told get rid of most of his staff. Settle was believed to have had a year left on his deal.
The question now is why fire the running backs coach when you have 2 quality and highly expensive running backs that you rarely use.
DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart have contracts that are a combined $89 million but both backs combine almost get less carries than quarterback Cam Newton.
Settle was fired despite the fact the rarely used duo still ended up ninth in the league in rushing with 130.5 yards a game. Of the eight teams ranked higher than Carolina in rushing, six made the playoffs.
Can you say awkward.
