Update: We have learned that Dan Sileo has been suspended for two days by WQAM for his comments that you can read below.
During a time when your resume should speak for itself, some people are still too concerned with the physical differences between male and female instead of the qualification and skills a person may possess. If you are a female aspiring to have a career in sports reporting beware. You can be successful, achieve your dreams, work for major networks, cover major sporting events, and even branch out and become nationally known outside of sports, but your work is never done unlike your male colleagues. You will constantly find yourself being sexually objectified, proving you know more about sports than what a first down is, while frequently striving for recognition oppose to just being labeled as a cute face with a slamming body that holds the microphone on the sidelines.
560 WQAM Miami radio host Dan Sileo is not exactly known for being appropriate. He did lose a job for calling three African American players “monkeys”, so I’ve learned to expect nothing but attention seeking antics from him. Sileo unleashed a verbal and bizarre attack on Twitter directed towards Andrews mentioning her former employer ESPN, then going completely left telling her to bake a cake, cook him dinner, and included remarks about her stalker being the best thing in her career.
For Sileo to bring that up in any context, especially using it to insult her is beyond horrifying. In order to maintain your level of fame some people reach for insults. It makes you wonder how sports radio could produce people like this that continue to make a living by spewing trash, not facts, or anything remotely pertaining to sports. I’m not sure why he even picked Andrews to be the victim of his verbal attack. It was so random. It made me think about the little pestering, naive little boy in grade school that keeps picking on you for no reason because they are too weak to admit they liked you. Regardless of his intentions, it was refreshing to see Andrews take the high road.
Sileo later came to his senses and concluded, after realizing he had a daughter, that the “peephole” comments were out of line, but the rest of his comments were fair game.
According to thebiglead.com, 24 hours after Sielo went on his Twitter attack, WIP Philadelphia host Howard Eskin decided to take shots at Andrews as well on the air. If you can’t have her attack her. From the looks of Sileo bathroom picture, maybe he was catfished too.
