NFL.com is reporting that Chiefs new head coach, Andy Reid is very interested in Alex Smith, and that the Chiefs could step up as the top team to reach out for his services.
The quotes from the San Francisco Chronicle from Reid in regards to Smith as told by Trent Dilfer is that he “really likes Alex.”
Dilfer is a close friend of Smith, and a former 49ers quarterback. He also stated:
“I don’t know a whole lot. I just know there was a courtship. It was not even an inside source, you know what I mean? It was just kind of the scuttle in the offseason,”
“I think Andy wants to change a little bit offensively,…Alex is a guy with a huge capacity (to learn). You can give him a lot and he can handle it. Andy has always been able to get the most out of guys that don’t have extreme talent.”
Sounds like a fresh start for all those involved. And while we’re still weeks away from the fate of Smith being made official, for now it does seem like Smith to the Chiefs would make a lot of sense.
