Report: Darrelle Revis seeking Mega-Deal
As trade rumors continue to swirl around Pro Bowl Cornerback Darrell Revis, the story surrounding his contract situation continues to develop. If you remember, Revis is in the last year of his current deal and is looking to cash in next off-season. Sparking the Jets to explore all options regarding trades because they may not be able to afford to keep him.
Even if another team does strike a deal for Revis, they’ll have to be ready to open up the bank if they want to keep him. And now we may know just how open that bank will have to be.
Per the New York Post, Revis is seeking a contract “Just north of Maro Williams” deal with the Bills. Tallying 6-years, $96 million with $50 million guaranteed. It is believed that Revis could command $60 million guaranteed and $16 million annually. A deal that would easily make him the highest paid defensive player in NFL history.
The question now must be asked. Is a cornerback worth that much money?
Nobody is doubting just how special Revis is. He is the definition of a shut-down corner.
But I’m just not sure he impacts the game enough to be getting paid near the same amount as the best quarterbacks in the league, I’m sorry.
But then again, I can never be upset with somebody trying to get their money. We’ll just have to see how it plays out.
