Matt Flynn Trade Seattle

This story shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone who watched Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson play this year.  After a regular season that saw him throw 26 touchdown passes while leading Seattle to an 11-5 record, Wilson led the Seahawks to a playoff win at Washington and was a couple of Matt Ryan passes away from having his team in the NFC Title Game on Sunday.

With Wilson firmly entrenched as Seattle’s starter moving forward, backup quarterback Matt Flynn figures to attract some attention on the NFL’s trade market this offseason.  Seattle general manager John Schneider acknowledged as much when he spoke with KIRO-AM in Seattle today (via NFL.com).  “I’d be lying to you if I told you that we wouldn’t be listening to people,” Schneider told KIRO-AM on Wednesday. “I think we all believe he’s a starter in this league, but we structure ourselves in a salary-cap manner where we’re in a very good position with him. Having two quarterbacks like that is pretty special. We’re going to do what’s best for the organization — period.”

Seattle signed Flynn to a $26 million dollar free agent contract last spring.  With so many questions about the quarterbacks who will be available in April’s NFL Draft, look for one of the league’s quarterback needy teams to make a push for Matt Flynn or 49ers quarterback Alex Smith.
