Never underestimate Serena Williams’s ability to find new ways of beating herself up while she breezes through her competition. First she cut her foot in Munich, then rolled her ankles, and now Serena has busted her lip. The only beating William’s can receive is on she continually gives herself.
During her second round at the Australian Open, Williams beat 19-year-old Garbine Muguruza 6-2 and 6-0. In the mist of giving the young Muguruza a spanking, Williams lip didn’t make it out quite so easy. While attempting a follow through with her forehand, Williams’s racquet caught her square on the lip. After the match, according to Dawn.com Williams stated the following:
“I just busted it, busted it wide open,” she said. “I think it happens to everyone, but I have never busted it wide open like that. So, yeah, I was like, ‘Oh, no, I can’t have a tooth fall out.’ That would be horrible.”
After the incident Williams tweeted out that she is fine, although her lips does hurt she will be okay via Twitter.
Today Williams will take on Ayumi Morita of Japan in the third round.
