Steelers Center Maurkice Pouncey Rooting for Ravens in Super Bowl

maurkice pouncey talks during Pro Bowl

Unless you have been under a rock for the last decade, everyone knows that the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens have one of the best rivalries in football. Because they play in the same division, fans are treated to those hard fought battles between the team at least twice a year.

Seeing as how the Ravens made it to the Super Bowl this year, one would probably assume that the Steelers don’t want their rivals to win it all. If you ask one Steeler though, that couldn’t be further from the truth. While doing an interview with NBC’s Michelle Tafoya, center Maurkice Pouncey offered these thoughts.

I know it’s going to sound crazy, but I’m pulling for Ray Lewis,” Pouncey admitted. “He’s from my hometown, and for him to go out on top would be a great look for our city.”

“I know a lot of people aren’t going to like it, but I think it’s more of a hometown thing. For him to go out on top would be memorable.”

For the record, Maurkice is from Lakeland, Florida. The same city where Ray Lewis played high school football. So I guess I can see where he is coming from.

Not sure Steelers fans will be as understanding though.

  • well as a longtime steeler fan this superbowl sucks either way. If the 49ers win that will give them 6 superbowls like the steelers so thats not ideal and if the ravens win….. well obviously steeler fans never want the ravens to win anything but in this case to keep us as the franchise with the most superbowls Mr. pouncey may be on to something. plus Ray is retiring and they may lose a couple of key players this next coming season so it may be okay to root for them just this once.
