Much has been made of the Eagles having to pay Michael Vick a $3 million guaranteed bonus if he was on the roster 3 days after the Super Bowl.
Many assumed because of such a high number that it would be a forgone conclusion that Vick would be released by next week.
The Star Ledger via Jason La Canfora says not so fast. La Canfora is reporting that Vick may well indeed receive that $3 million as the Eagles figure out what to do with their quarterback situation.
La Canfora: Much has been made of the fact that $3 million of Mike Vick’s $16.5 million contract with the Eagles becomes guaranteed if he is on their roster come Feb. 6, but sources said that issue is not a concern at this time, and it’s unlikely Vick’s contract will be resolved before then.
Kelly’s fast paced spread attack would seem to suit Vick’s skill sets but still some have doubt about whether Kelly will go with a battered 33-year-old quarterback who holds the ball to long.
Expect the Eagles to hold onto to Vick up until at least the draft where they hold the 4th overall pick. It will be interesting to see what Kelly does with that pick if West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith is still on the board.
