Carmelo Anthony Will Not Be Suspended For Slapping Spencer Hawes
Knicks fans will rejoice in the news that Carmelo Anthony will not be facing a suspension for laying his hands on Spencer Hawes in Sunday night’s game vs the Sixers.
ESPN is reporting the news that upon review the league has decided against any type of suspension on the play. This comes as the amount of on the court skirmishes for Melo continue to pile up. Anthony was infamously suspended following ‘honey nut’ gate for the non physical altercation after game with Kevin Garnett.
This time Melo struck Philadelphia’s big man Spencer Hawes in the back of the head as they fought for position for a rebound in the 3rd quarter. The incident led to a flagrant foul for Melo, and double techs for Hawes and Tyson Chandler, who went in and pushed Hawes after he tried to confront Melo after the initial contact.
Knicks coach Mike Woodson said the following in regards to the matter
“He’s just got to control his emotions,”
“Melo is a physical player and he likes contact, which is great. He doesn’t back away from contact. We had the altercation and we were able to pull away from it. No punches were thrown. They assessed the technicals and the flagrants the way they saw it and we moved on.”
