It has to be a challenging task to work as a play-by-play announcer for the Washington Wizards. The Wizards are currently 18-38 this season. I imagine the last time a Wizard announcer was able to show pure excite for their team opposed to the visiting team was when Michael Jordan played for them.

During Wednesday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons, Steve Buckhantz gave insight on how challenging it could be to commentate for the Wizards. With 12 seconds left on the clock the Wizards where down by one point. The ball was passed around until it stopping at Trevor Ariza.

Ariza shoots the ball and it rattles in. He wins the game for the Wizards! The fans in the stands go crazy. All of the players jump off the Wizard’s bench and embrace Ariza, while confetti starts to fall from the sky.

Then we all woke up.

That would have been the outcome of the game, but we are talking about the Wizards here. Buckhantz was ready for the celebration of his life, after yelling “daaaaaaaaaagggger!” thinking the shot went it.

Unfortunately the only dagger was the one Buckhantz pierced the hearts of the Wizard fans with. Ariza clearly air balled the game winning shot, but Buckhantz, who blames the poor camera angle for his mishaps, thought it was the perfect basket.

“They’re saying it did not go!” Buckhantz said, as Chenier chuckled sadly. “We saw what appeared to be the ball go through the net, but evidently it came up short.”

“I was wondering why we didn’t see more reaction from the Wizards’ players,” Chenier pointed out.

“So the Dagger has been retracted,” Buckhantz said.

When in doubt, look at the reaction of the opposing player that will always set you free.
