Andre Berto was once considered to be one of the brightest young stars in boxing but his recent skid has slowed those expectations.
Berto has decided to fire his career-long trainer, Tony Morgan, as a result of his recent slide. Both Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero have earned fights with Floyd Mayweather Jr. after defeating Berto and that could be what contributed to his impatience.
Berto had this to say about switching trainers:
“Tony and I had a great ride together from the amateurs to two professional world championships, and he will always be a very important person in my life. He taught me a lot, and I am grateful to him for that, but this is a decision I had to make at this point in my career.”
Berto has all of the tools to be the fighter that ends Mayweather’s undefeated streak but what he needs to regain is the hunger that he exhibited early in his career.
