Gay NFL Player Considering Coming Out of the Closet
It shouldn’t matter if a player is gay or not, it should only matter if he can play. Just like it shouldn’t matter the color of your skin, your religion or political affiliations.
Can you play or can’t you?
Unfortunately, in our society homophobia runs rampant and because of social media, people can safely spew their homophobic jargon, hidden behind their computers or smart phones.
If you feel homosexuality is wrong that’s fine, but that is no reason to discriminate or be cruel to those who choose to live that lifestyle.
There are more than a few gay players in every sports league. You would be naive to think otherwise. The NFL is filled with gay and bi-sexual players who are afraid to come out, for obvious reasons. Mike Freeman of CBS Sports believes there maybe one. who is ready to step into that spotlight.
Here is what he had to say.
Based on interviews over the past several weeks with current and former players, I’m told that a current gay NFL player is strongly considering coming out publicly within the next few months — and after doing so, the player would attempt to continue his career.
This player’s true concern, I’m told, is not the reaction inside an NFL locker room but outside of it. The player fears he will suffer serious harm from homophobic fans, and that is the only thing preventing him from coming out. My sources will not say who this alleged player is.
Of course, he is going to get some push back from ignorant fans, but here is the thing. Go look at Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Wes Welker or any athlete’s Twitter mentions, there are certain group of fans, who are always going to be ignorant.
I hope the player comes out, not because I care about the cause either way, but because as someone who has been discriminated against, if you never take a stand, there will never be any change.
