Juan Manuel Marquez is contemplating what his future may hold and whether or not he wants to continue to box into his 40’s; he is 39 years old right now. One clear thing that has come from a recent interview is that Manny Pacquiao is in the rear view for the Mexican superstar.
Here is what Marquez had to say about the prospects of fighting this year and what fight he’d be willing to take:
“During the Month of April I will decide whether or not I’ll stay in boxing. That is a decision me and my family will make.”
“To keep fighting, I want to draw as much attention as possible to win a fifth world title in a different division, I want to go for the Welterweight title.”
The pursuit of his 5th Welterweight title would put him in the path of champion Tim Bradley. Bradley is coming off of the most exciting match of his career against Ruslan Provodnikov. A fight that saw him knocked down 3 times and wobbled in almost every round.
Marquez’s power is amongst the best at that weight class and Bradley’s chin must prove to be even stronger if he hopes to stand toe to toe with Marquez. Bradley has been looking for his jump into the limelight and he may be on the fast track.
The winner of Marquez vs Bradley would be in a position to challenge Floyd Mayweather Jr. and cash in on a large purse, whether that is the last pay day for Marquez or the next one for Bradley.
