When the news broke that the New England Patriots had simply low balled Wes Welker and signed Danny Amendola instead, many pundits accuse Bill Belichick of losing his mind.
The Patriots have now made many aware that Amendola was a preferred choice and not just an after thought. One NFC scout agrees with the Patriots, and told MassLive.com that Amendola is a definite upgrade over Welker as long as he’s healthy.
“All I can say is that Amendola, barring durability issues, should be an upgrade,” an NFC scout recently told MassLive.com.
The scout admitted that assessment hinges on Amendola remaining healthy.
“He does all the things the other guy was doing, but he’s younger right now — suddenness, route savvy, a feel for leveraging defenders and finding openings,” the scout said. “You name it he did it. … Watch (the San Francisco game from last year) — he (stood) out.”
We definitely will see.
