Nnamdi Asmomugha had his greatest success as a football player on the west coast, in the Bay Area, and reports suggest that a return may not be far off.
CSNBayArea is reporting that the 49ers and Asomugha have mutual interest in a deal getting done.
There is mutual interest between the 49ers and free-agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, league sources indicated Wednesday to CSNBayArea.com.
The 49ers are among three teams that have shown interest in Asomugha, a source said. Pro Football Talk reports there are four teams, including the Houston Texans, Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals. The 49ers also were involved with Asomugha two years ago before he signed a blockbuster contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The 32-year-old Asomugha owns a home in California, and went to college and had great success with the Raiders in the same general vicinity.
The 49ers are looking for a big corner to help deal with some of the bigger receivers they will end up facing.
