Report: Bucs Refuse To Give Jets 2013 1st Round Pick For Darrelle Revis
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers want Darrelle Revis and the Jets want to get rid of him, so whats the hold up? ESPN New York via Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Buccaneers refuse to part ways with this years first round pick, #13 overall.
As we reported yesterday, they would be willing to part ways with their first round pick in 2014. Reports suggest that Jets GM John Idzik would then wait until around NFL Draft time to see if he can get a trade partner for Revis.
Darrelle Revis is due a roster bonus of $1 million if he’s still a Jet on Saturday, and that has many wondering if Idzik would rush a trade to prevent the team from paying such a bonus.
“One million is a pittance in the big picture when you’re talking about a player of Revis’ stature and the compensation he could bring,” a league source said Wednesday. “Don’t be foolish with something like that.”
The Jets who we all know are cheap, could be perceived as cheap for not wanting to pay Revis such a small figure. Owner Woody Johnson for his part wants Revis gone according to reports.
“Woody’s like, ‘He has to go; we need to trade him,’” another league source said. “There was no optimism that he’d ever get another deal done with [those agents].”
