The Ravens and Steelers compete at least twice a season as division rivals during the NFL regular season, and now according to reports, they’ll be competing for the top pass rusher on the open market also.
Because of a paperwork and fax issue, Elvis Dumervil is now a free agent. Multiple reports from the Baltimore Sun are indicating that the Steelers have joined the Ravens in the Dumervil sweepstakes.
The Steelers are in need of an outside pass rusher after releasing James Harrison right before the start of free agency.
The Ravens’ biggest rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, are also interested in Dumervil after cutting outside linebacker James Harrison as a salary-cap casualty prior to the free agent signing period, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.
Structuring a contract high enough for Dumervil could be tough for either team because of tight salary-cap situations, but teams can always make adjustments to their roster by cutting players if they need to make room for an elite player.
Dumervil is in a pretty good situation right now. He can wait and choose the right situation for him, knowing that several teams need a high quality pass rusher.
