Restricted FA Victor Cruz Drawing Lots of Interest
I can almost guarantee that there will be a mutiny in new York if the Giants let Victor Cruz walk away.
As farfetched as that scenario playing out may seem, Chris Wesseling of NFL.com, wrote that there is a lot of interest in the Pro Bowl receiver who burst onto the scene two seasons ago after the Giants signed him as an undrafted free agent.
NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport hears there is already “a ton of interest” on Cruz, with “plenty of teams just waiting for their opening” once free agency kicks off.
Cruz is sure to draw the first-round tender from the Giants. The question is if the traditionally slow restricted free-agent market will bear fruit for an impact slot receiver.
“There is enough interest in Cruz to make me think this could be the year someone bites on an RFA,” Rapoport adds.
One team to watch is the St. Louis Rams, holding an extra first-round pick from last offseason’s Robert Griffin III trade. With slot machine Danny Amendola ready to test the market, Cruz could entice the Jeff Fisher-Les Snead tag team to part with one of those high picks.
Victor Cruz, over the last two seasons has emerged as one of the best slot receivers in the NFL, he has great chemistry with Eli Manning and is a very important cog in a Giants offense that needed his production when it made that impromptu Super Bowl run in 2012. There’s also the elephant in the room with regards to re-signing Hakeem Nicks after next season. With all that being said, I still expect to see Cruz doing the salsa with the New York Giants logo on his helmet in the 2013 season.
