Ex-NBA Javaris Crittenton Turns Himself In On Murder Charges
This may be the last you see of Javaris Crittenton, who is known for being the guy who pulled out a gun on Gilbert Arenas in the Wizard’s locker room steaming from a card debate. After being indicted on murder charges on Tuesday, Crittenton has turned himself into authorities on Thursday, according to WSBTV.
Fulton County Assistant District Attorney Gabriel Banks said not only was Crittenton a gang member, but once he was robbed, he tried to settle the score and find other members from rival gangs who tried to take jewelry from him.
Crittenton allegedly opened fire, killing the 22-year-old mother, and is now facing 12 counts against him in the death of Julian Jones.
“This is very concerning to our office that gang activity extends beyond the street level, but actually ventures into professional sports and what type of message that actually extends to the young people here in the city of Atlanta,” said Banks. “So we are very concerned with that and we want to ensure that the young people here in the city of Atlanta don’t copycat those efforts.”
Money and opportunity doesn’t change everyone. I don’t know if Crittenton is innocent or guilty of murder, but I do know he hasn’t put himself in positions to excel as he should have. After being drafted by the Lakers, who knows where the now 29 year-old former NBA player could have been at this point in his career. Regardless guilty or innocent Crittenton’s judgement day is nearing now that he has turned himself in. I hope he has braced himself for the ride.
