I’m not sure how having the moniker “Kickalicious” is going to go over in an NFL locker room, but if he can make 50-yarders with regularity, I’m guessing they’ll be willing to overlook it.
According to USA Today Sports, the Detroit Lions have signed 28-year-old Norwegian Havard Rugland, to compete with veteran David Akers to be the team’s new kicker. Rugland, is renowned on YouTube for doing a variety of tricks shots with the football in his homeland of Norway.
Kickalicious, unsurprisingly, worked out for the New York Jets recently before impressing the Lions brass. Coach Jim Schwartz told the Detroit Free Press, that they found out about Rugland the same way everyone else did.
“Kickalicious?” Schwartz told the Detroit Free Press. “Same way you guys did. He hadworked out for the Jets, I believe, a couple weeks before us. And when you work out a player, it goes across the (NFL) wire also. But when those guys have agents and things like that, the reason they went through that was to try to get opportunities, so he has agents (that are) working, and we had opportunity.”
