The NFL is trying to enhance the feel of the live-game experience in its stadiums by showing footage from home teams’ locker rooms.
The NY Times reports that the NFL will require that all home team locker rooms have cameras installed. Teams will be strongly encouraged to show the video captured to those in attendance to give fans an exclusive inside look into what goes on behind the scenes during a football game.
Unlike in the past, the league will also force stadiums to air replays of important plays like fumbles, scoring plays, and questionable catches, even if what is shown is not favorable.
This is clearly an attempt by the NFL to encourage fans to keep attending games, even though the experience of watching from the comfort of their home may be just as appealing and much cheaper. It will be interesting how these in stadium locker room feeds will go over, and if they’ll do anything to keep fans in the seats.
