Report: Andrew Bynum won’t Show the 76ers any Loyalty during Free Agency
The Philadelphia 76ers have a very interesting dilemma on their hands. When they acquired center Andrew Bynum in a blockbuster trade last off-season, they felt they finally had a star to build around and a new direction with their franchise. Unfortunately though, Bynum never actually played for the team. Numerous knee injuries have cost Bynum the whole season and now with free agency looming, there is a chance he will never play a minute for the 76ers.
With the uncertainty regarding Bynum’s health, many have wondered whether or not the 76ers would be willing to commit a long-term contract. But apparently, the real question will be whether or not Bynum would be willing to come back. According to Pro Basketball Talk, the Sixers will not be given any loyalty during free agency and will be treated as just another suitor.
Per from John N. Mitchell of Philly.com: “While it would be wonderful if Bynum – an unrestricted free agent – gave the Sixers special consideration in light of all that they lost in trading for him and the agonizing wait for him to return, a team source with knowledge of the situation said last week that he does not believe that will be the case.”
We’ll have to see how this ultimately plays out, but I’m not completely sure the 76ers should be jumping at the chance to commit to Bynum long-term. Regardless of whether or not Bynum is willing to come back, I would not be jumping at the chance to give a max contract to an immature, physical liability.
That’s just me though.Powered by Sidelines
