Dwight Howard is a lot of things on and off the court. When healthy, he shows signs of being a great defensive player while still being able to dominate the post on offense. However as of the last year or so, people aren’t praising the three-time defensive player of the year. Instead his indecisive personality and his inability to be forthcoming in his decisions has drawn more attention than his on-court performance.
According to Sam Amick of USAToday, before Kobe Bryant went down with Achilles tendon injury Dwight Howard had begun contemplating remaining a Los Angeles Laker.
While the center who will be a free agent this summer has continued his noncommittal stance about whether he will sign with the Lakers or head elsewhere, two people close to him said they fully expect him to return. The people spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity out of respect for Howard’s decision to wait until the summer to make his final choice.
Following the season ending injury to Kobe Bryant, the remainder of the regular season would be a good test for Dwight to see if he could make it as a Laker. Now it’s time to feed the beast. After scoring 26 points and grabbing 17 rebounds against the Spurs it became evident, at least last night, he was up for the challenge without Bryant.
Howard can’t replace Bryant in a blink of the eye. The city of Los Angeles has a pedigree to live by- every season is playoffs or bust. Getting to the playoffs and doing well after making it may propel him to remain a Laker, but only time will tell with Dwight Howard.
