Caption the Photo: John Starks and JR Smith Sharing a Moment
John Starks gets a bit of a bad rap, without him the Knicks wouldn’t have been as good during the 1993-94 season and he was a tough of a player that there ever was, but his playoff failures that year are similar to JR Smith on a much grander scale.
The 1993-94 season was Starks best as a pro, he averaged 19 points and 6 assists a game. In the playoffs though , all his numbers were down considerably. He only average 15 points and 6 assists a game while shooting a horrid 33% FG (sounds familiar).
Even without him playing well, the Knicks were only one game from winning the NBA Title. They were up 3-2 as they made their way back to Houston. Starks played well in Game 6 against the Rockets, he went 9-18 scored 27 points and had 8 assists in a game the Knicks lost 86-84. He played pretty well in the entire series and had shot above 50% in three consecutive games, but then Game 7 happened.
In what will go down as one of the ugliest box scores in the history of the NBA, Starks in the biggest game of his life went 2-18 and 0-11 from 3 as the Rockets went on to win the championship 90-84.
So, if anyone knows what JR Smith is going through it is Starks, so JR would be wise to listen.
