Yankees ailing center fielder Curtis Granderson hasn’t had a memorable season thus far with two injuries sidelining him, but his efforts away from the field are quite memorable.
Granderson has agreed to donate a whopping $5 million of his own money to his alma mater, the University of Illinois-Chicago to pay for most of the costs for their new baseball stadium. Granderson is often regarded as one of the most charitable players in the sport, and often gives back to the community.
The new 1,200 seat stadium costs $7 million and will be dubbed Curtis Granderson stadium, in his honor.
No words on how generous his efforts are in giving back to the place that molded him. Granderson has found a useful way to spend his time off the field, just wish more pro athletes would follow his footsteps.
