Rex Ryan reportedly needed the Jets to draft a quarterback to have any chance at saving his job. The Jets chose Geno Smith in the second round, and its no surprise that Rex and the Jets are feeling lovey dovey.
The New York Post is reporting that the Jets are “smitten” with Geno Smith, and so impressed with him after this weekends rookie minicamp, that it’s reportedly his starting quarterback job to lose.
Reports say he threw the ball with zip, showed leadership skills, and looked more and more comfortable as the weekend went on.
Those sources say Mark Sanchez will get a chance to compete, but that the Mark Sanchez era is essentially over. Sanchez will probably be released or traded with the Jets eating most if not all of that $8.25 million he’s due, so that they can move on in a new direction.
David Garrard would most likely man the ship until Smith is comfortable. Man how quick things can change. It was only a couple of season ago Mark Sanchez had the nickname of “Sanchise.”
