Report: Raptors Fire GM Bryan Colangelo, Offer him Corporate Role

Bryan Colangelo

According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Toronto Raptors are planning on relieving general manager Bryan Colangelo, of his duties but plan on offering him a different role within the organization.

Wojnarowski, also says that the organization has targeted Denver Nuggets general manager and 2013 NBA Executive of the Year Masai Ujiri as his potential replacement.

It became clear the end was near for Colangelo, when the recently-hired CEO of Maple Leafs and Sports Entertainment Tim Leiweke, allowed weeks to pass by without addressing his future.

The then highly touted Colangelo, joined the Raptors in 2006 after achieving a significant amount of success with the Phoenix Suns. He won the NBA Executive of the Year award in his first season with the team, after they surprised many by winning 47 games and securing the Atlantic Division title.

But the fortunes of the team have been in decline since then, with the team missing the playoffs for five consecutive seasons, losing franchise player Chris Bosh to free agency and the disappointing play of former No. 1 overall draft pick Andrea Bargnani.
