The San Francisco 49ers want Marcus Lattimore to take it slow in his return to the field after suffering a disgusting knee tear against Tennessee.
Many weren’t sure if Lattimore would ever play football again, but the 49ers selected the big-hearted running back in the fourth round.
Lattimore told NFL Network that he feels good about where his heading, and hopes to start practicing by mid-season.
“I did a lot this offseason,” Lattimore said. “I’ve been running sprints, got a chance to get in there with the guys a little bit — that felt good. I probably won’t do training camp. And I’m on course with the trainer and the doctor to get a chance to practice mid-season and see what happens.”
I’m all for Lattimore practicing and getting back to full strength this year, but I don’t think he should play a down of football.
Lattimore is the heir apparent to Frank Gore, and has the benefit of a professional redshirt season to get his body together.
