Less than two months ago Chael Sonnen was on the business end of a Jon “Bones” Jones beat down and on the verge of retirement. Today Sonnen is in the Co-Main event ofJune 15th’s  UFC 161 against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Sonnen takes this fight with just 2 weeks to prepare for his opponent. Rua was scheduled to fight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in the co-feature of UFC 161 but  Nogueira pulled out a week ago with an apparent back injury. Sonnen is always the UFC’s go to guy which is why he is rewarded with multiple title fights. His ability to sell fights and his warrior attitude always makes him a must watch.

This is actually the second injury to this fight card, the first was main event participant Renan Barao was scratched with a foot injury.

The UFC 151 card is drastically different from Dana White’s original plans but their ability to remain flexible has salvaged the fight card.

  1. Sadly my boy Chael couldn’t get a Visa to Canada (likely due to being a convicted felon, stemming from his famous mortgage fraud case) and so the match is being scrapped with Shogun off the card.
