While Beckett has had a less than stellar season, his loss still counts as another blow to the Dodger’s disappointing season.
Beckett has been sidelined since Mid May with a nerve issue in his right arm and during a throwing session on Friday, he felt slight tingling. Dodgers skipper Don Mattingly called the issue with Beckett ‘a little bit of a setback’. But Dodgers beat writer Dylan Hernandez tweeted that Beckett will have season ending surgery:
Josh Beckett's season is over. Surgery.

Beckett is expected to be ready for spring training. Operation will be to relieve pressure on a compressed nerve.

Beckett was having an awful season with an 0-5 record and 5.19 ERA through 8 starts.
Beckett was of course acquired through the $250 million pickup from Boston, which also brought over Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford. So far, as predicted by me, the Dodgers gamble by buying the Red Sox’s ‘used pieces’ has been everything but a success.
