Brian Kelly

In one of the more surprising rumors, according to ProFootballTalk current Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly could be headed to the Detroit Lions in 2013. That is of course, if current Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has another sub-par season with the Lions.

As the theory goes, if the Lions don’t turn it around this year, Schwartz will be out and the Lions will pursue Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly.

Kelly flirted with the Eagles after the BCS national title game, before deciding to stay at South Bend.  It’s now believed that the CEO of Notre Dame Football, Inc. will eventually jump to the NFL.

Again, Schwartz would need to have another poor season with the Lions for this to have any chance of happening but it actually makes some sense.

Remember, Kelly spent 20 years in Michigan coaching at both Grand Valley State and Central Michigan. With all that time, would be hard to imagine Kelly being opposed to coming back to the state to take over the Lions.

    That would be 2014, genius…not 2013

Perhaps we will only have to wait one game, and then yes it would be 2013.
