Gennady Golovkin is coming off of one of the most impressive fights of the year with his KO victory over Matt Macklin. Just don’t expect Golovkin to sit back and bask in all of the praises of that win. He’s already looking for his next possible KO victim.
Tom Loeffler, Director of K2 Promotions, has said that Gennady Golovkin will fight on HBO once again in November. That would mark the 4th time Gennady defended his IBO/WBA title this year.
Four fights in a year is highly impressive, but still not enough for the heavy hitting champion. Gennady is currently searching for an August fight as well, which would help him accomplish his goal of fighting 5 times in 2013.
Sergio Martinez is the fighter everyone has been throwing out for GGG, but MArtinez won’t fight again until 2014 and even then it’d be surprising if he takes Golovkin as his first fight after a long layoff.
The most likely opponent is WBO champion Peter Quillin. Titles still equate to money in the world of boxing, so the possibility of accumulating another belt will be high on Golovkin’s list.
