Geno Smith Likes His Chances Of Being Jets Starter
While Mark Sanchez has been on a world tour of proclamation about his chances to be the Jets starting quarterback, Geno Smith has tried to quietly go about his business since being drafted.
Smith is hours away from officially starting to his pro football career, and he’s confident. The former Mountaineer quarterback told the Charleston Gazette that “he likes his chances of winning the Jets starting quarterback job.”
“I’m prepared,” Smith said. “I’m just getting better daily. I’ve improved so much from the time the [Pinstripe Bowl] ended [in December] to now. I continue to improve steadily.
“I feel like I have a great shot. I did a pretty good job overall of just adapting to the [Jets'] system and playbook and felt very comfortable with it by the end of OTAs [outside team activities] and mandatory [mini-] camp [in May and June].”
Smith doesn’t have to be RG3 or Russell Wilson, but at some point he does have to unseat Sanchez, or his selection was for naught.
