Jon Jones is considered the best MMA fighter in the world and for the Light Heavyweight champ a new challenge may be on the horizon.
Jon told MMAJunkie.com that he will soon make the jump to the Heavyweight division. He had this to say during his sit down with the site:
“Oh, eventually.”
“I’m getting older, I’m growing, and I’m getting stronger. Why not? Yeah, for sure.”
Jon Jones has never lacked confidence and his 5 straight title defenses in the Light Heavyweight division is tied for the UFC record for consecutive defenses in that class.
Jones next fight is scheduled for September 21st against the dangerous Alexander Gustaffson. After witnessing the captivating defeat of Anderson Silva fans aren’t going to just assume that Jones will roll through this fight. A win would secure his dominance of the divsion and set up a Super-Fight possibility with the Heavyweight champ. On the other hand, a loss may also yield the same results. Jones could use the loss as an opportunity to break away from the light heavyweight division without having to carry the weight of a streak and start a new legacy in the heavyweight division.
UFC President Dana White had this to say about the Jones move:
“If he gets to the point in his career when he wants to move up to heavyweight, I mean, what he accomplished in the first year and a half as a light heavyweight was incredibly impressive.”
“The fact that he can move up – I’ve been waiting for Anderson Silva to move up to 205, but he never wanted to do it. I’d like to see it.”
Jon “Bones” Jones will soon be taking his skills to the heavyweight division and everyone is excited to see what a bigger, stronger, Jones is capable of accomplishing.
