Michael Phelps promised he would never swim past the age of 30, but it sounds like he’s now changing his mind. Phelps has earned 22 medals throughout his Olympic career, and according to CBS Sports Phelps is now leaving the door open for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
When asked outright how he felt about competing in the Brazil Olympics, Phelps said:
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow.”
Phelps would have to start training in 2015 in order to be competitive for the 2016 Olympics, but he made it very clear when he addressed the media as he explained:
“I don’t know. We’re in 2013. There’s nothing in the works.”
Even though Phelps will be 31 when the 2016 Olympics roll around, I still think he could put on a good show for fans of the sport. However, the final decision rests with him.
