For obvious reasons, most NFL players don’t start off being a fan of the team they end up playing for. Most of them come from different cities and end up making the move for the city that eventually drafts them. Count Larry Fitzgerald in this group, as he was raised in Minnesota. With the Vikings being the closest team to his geography, Fitzgerald was instantly a huge fan. In fact, Larry was so devoted to the team that he eventually became a ball boy for the Vikings.
In an interview for the Cardinals team website last year, Fitzgerald said:
“Growing up in Minnesota it’s second nature. I still pull for them when I’m not playing them. A lot of my closest friends in the NFL are Vikings.”
Yahoo Sports has reported Kevin Leventhal of KARE 11 has uncovered actual evidence of Fitzgerald’s allegiance to the Vikings dating back to 2000. Fitzgerald maintains his commitment to the Cardinals, but interestingly enough the Cardinals haven’t fared well against the Vikings with him on the field. Coincidence? We will just have to wonder.
